The Magic Box!

Judah lives in a magic box. You see, by day, his room transforms itself into an office, one with papers all over desks and computer screens displaying important information. Very boring stuff. But by night! Oh, by night that room is transformed into a little boy’s dreamland, where adventurous stories are read aloud and dreams take flight in the heart of a young child.

Because when you live in California, that’s what you do. You squeeze yourselves into tiny boxes that you pay an exorbitant amount of money for and, well, you make it work. So, that’s what we did. We made it work.

And, you see, when you only have a half of a room to work with, it makes you think about things. I mean, is a changing table really necessary? You’ve got to work with the essentials. Nothing more. It’s a minimalist’s dream, really.

So, here are my thoughts on what makes a good nursery.

A reading corner.

Because I’d sacrifice a poop-encrusted changing table for stories of adventure any day!

Intentional decor.

You see, when you’re working with a small space, every piece counts. You no longer have the dilemma of filling a plethora of blank walls with arbitrary items. Pick what you want, and go for it. Make it intentional.

The crib.

The pinnacle of a good nursery!

It is my belief that a crib should speak for itself. There’s no need for bumpers, pillows, or unnecessary furnishings when you’ve got something good to work with.  Plus… safety!

The star of the show.

No nursery is complete without the main event!

Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SIUD) still claims more than 3,500 infants each year in North America.  More than half of these deaths are preventable when proper safe sleep practices are followed.   To help keep all babies sleeping safely and avoid these unnecessary tragedies, HALO is dedicated to putting the health, safety and well-being of babies first. In fact, over 1,400 hospitals use HALO® SleepSack® wearable blankets through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Hospital Initiative.  Through this program HALO has helped Hospitals and Birth Centers throughout North America create their own safe sleep programs, which utilize the HALO SleepSack Swaddle to demonstrate to parents and caregivers how to keep their babies sleeping safely.  To date, HALO has donated more than $4.3 million in its efforts to promote safe sleep education.

Here’s a link to these safe sleep tips on the HALO website!
